Serving authors across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area
Ghostwriting Services in Toronto
Canadian Ghostwriters is a Toronto-based book writing team that works with authors across the GTA on memoirs, business books, non-fiction and fiction. You talk. We write. Your name goes on the cover, the copyright is assigned to you in writing, and your ghostwriter never appears anywhere in the finished book. Every project starts with a free consultation — no obligation, no pressure.

Why a ghostwriter
Why Toronto authors work with a ghostwriter
A ghostwriter is a professional writer who writes a book on your behalf while you remain the named author and legal owner of the work. In Toronto, most ghostwriting projects involve recorded interviews, a chapter-by-chapter outline, drafting in your voice, and developmental editing — with copyright assigned to you in a signed written agreement under Canada’s Copyright Act.
Toronto is full of people carrying a book they have never had time to write. Founders and executives in the Financial District. Physicians, professors and lawyers. Community leaders. New Canadians whose journeys deserve more than a family anecdote. Retirees who want a lifetime set down properly before the details soften. What almost none of them have is three to six uninterrupted months and the craft to shape a manuscript. That gap is exactly what professional ghostwriting services close.
For authors over 40 the stakes are usually personal as well as professional — a memoir written while the memories are sharp, a family legacy for children and grandchildren, the story of a company built over decades, or hard-won expertise turned into a non-fiction book that opens doors. Our autobiography and memoir ghostwriting work sits at the centre of this: these are not projects to hand to an inexperienced writer. They need someone who can interview you properly, hear your cadence, and turn scattered notes and voice memos into chapters a stranger will actually finish.
Toronto is also one of the better places in Canada to be an author. The city is the centre of Canadian publishing — Penguin Random House Canada, HarperCollins Canada and McClelland & Stewart sit alongside independent presses like House of Anansi Press, ECW Press, Dundurn Press, Coach House Books and Cormorant Books. The Word On The Street, running since 1990 and now Canada’s largest free book festival, fills David Pecaut Square every September. The Toronto International Festival of Authors follows in the fall. Between the Toronto Public Library’s writing programming and a reading public as varied as the city itself, there is an audience here for almost any kind of book — immigrant memoir, faith writing, business narrative, family history, literary fiction.
Working with us means you are never facing a blank page. You speak in interviews, we draft, and you review each section as it takes shape — requesting changes freely, as often as you need, right through to the final manuscript.

How it works
Our Toronto ghostwriting process: the Authored Voice Method
Every Toronto project follows the same proven six-step process, so you always know exactly where your book stands.
1
1 — Discovery & Positioning
We start with a conversation about your goal, your reader and your genre. A legacy memoir for family, a business book meant to win speaking engagements, and a novel aimed at Kindle readers are three different books — the direction is set before a word is written.
2
2 — Recorded Interviews & Research
Your ghostwriter interviews you in scheduled sessions, working from your notes, documents, photographs and voice memos. Interviews are recorded and transcribed so your phrasing, your rhythm and your specific details survive into the draft. Where a book needs verification — dates, records, technical detail — we research it rather than approximate it.
3
3 — Chapter Outline & Structure
4
4 — Voice-Matched Drafting
5
5 — Developmental & Line Editing
A separate editor takes the completed draft through developmental editing (structure, pacing, clarity of argument, character consistency), then line editing and proofreading against the Chicago Manual of Style. This is the same standard we apply in our standalone editing and proofreading services, and revisions continue until the manuscript reads the way you want it to read.
6
6 — Formatting & Handover
You receive a clean, publish-ready manuscript. Our book formatting services prepare EPUB and print-ready interiors for Kindle Direct Publishing or another platform, and if you want the launch handled end to end we can take you through professional self-publishing as well. If your plan is to query Canadian literary agents and independent presses instead, we deliver a properly formatted submission manuscript. The signed copyright assignment is completed at handover.
What we do
Ghostwriting, editing and proofreading for Toronto authors
We meet your book wherever it is today — a folder of notes, a half-finished draft, or a completed manuscript that needs a professional edit. Below are the categories Toronto authors bring us most often. If your project sits between two of them, that is normal; most real books do.
From a full ghostwritten manuscript to a careful final proofread, we meet you wherever your book is today. These are the books that matter most to established authors — tied to a career, a family or a belief — which is exactly why so many Toronto writers over 40 choose an experienced team rather than leaving the story unfinished.

Editing & Proofreading
Already have a draft? Developmental editing, line editing, copy editing and proofreading to Chicago Manual of Style — plus manuscript assessment if you want an honest read before deciding what to do next.
Beyond the manuscript
A finished manuscript is not a finished book. Once the writing is signed off, the production work begins: book cover design that holds up as a thumbnail on a retail page, interior layout, and book illustration services for children’s titles, memoirs with family photographs, or non-fiction that needs diagrams. If you want physical copies for a launch event, a family distribution or a bookstore consignment, our book printing services handle short and long runs.
Then comes the part most first-time authors underestimate — getting the book in front of readers. eBook social media marketing builds an audience before launch day rather than after it. Our PR publication service pitches your story to media outlets and podcasts where your reader already is. And book review writing services help you gather the early editorial reviews that give a new title credibility on a retail page. Every stage stays under one roof, so nothing gets lost being handed between vendors.

Why Toronto authors choose Canadian Ghostwriters
Toronto authors choose Canadian Ghostwriters for written copyright assignment, full confidentiality, and a dedicated writer-and-editor pairing on every project. We work remotely with authors across Toronto and the GTA, deliver chapters for review as they are written, and keep the schedule agreed at the start of the project.
A memoir or a business book is usually a once-in-a-lifetime project. It deserves a team that treats the material with discretion, keeps you in control from the first call to the final page, and hands you something you are proud to put your name on. That is the standard Canadian Ghostwriters works to on every manuscript, whether it is a 20,000-word family memoir or a full-length novel.
Copyright assigned to you in writing
Under Canada’s Copyright Act, commissioning a work does not by itself transfer copyright — the author of a work is its first owner, and an assignment is only valid when it is in writing and signed. That is why every project ends with a signed assignment rather than a verbal assurance. The finished book is legally yours.
Complete confidentiality
Your ghostwriter stays behind the scenes permanently. You are credited as sole author, our writers do not list your book in a portfolio, and the working relationship is covered by a non-disclosure agreement from the first call.
A dedicated writer and a separate editor
You work with one ghostwriter throughout, so your voice stays consistent. A second editor reviews the manuscript independently — the writer who drafted a chapter is not the person who signs off on it.
Remote, on your schedule
Interviews run by video or phone, drafts arrive in shared documents, and everything happens on your calendar. Authors in downtown Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke and across the GTA work with us without a single in-person meeting.

Questions, answered
Ghostwriting in Toronto — frequently asked questions
Do I have to live in Toronto to work with your ghostwriters?
Who owns the copyright to the finished book?
How long does it take to write a book?
How much does a ghostwriter cost in Toronto?
Cost depends on word count, genre, and how much research and interviewing the book requires. A short business book built from existing material and a researched historical memoir are very different projects. We provide a fixed written quote after a free consultation, so you know the full figure before you commit — no hourly billing and no scope surprises.
Will anyone know I used a ghostwriter?
Can you help me publish the book as well?
What happens if I don’t like the draft?
Do I still earn royalties on a ghostwritten book?
